About Izerskie Mountains Landscape Park

Izerskie Mountains Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Gór Izerskich) is a protected area in southwestern Poland encompassing the northern slopes of the Izera Mountains, part of the larger Sudetes mountain range. Established in 1989, the park covers a diverse mountainous landscape characterized by dense spruce and beech forests, moorlands, peat bogs, and crystal-clear streams. The park’s geography features gently rolling ridges with elevations generally ranging from 600 to 1100 meters, with the highest peak being Wysoka Kopa at 1126 meters. The area's ecology is notable for its well-preserved natural habitats, which support a variety of wildlife including rare birds such as black storks, capercaillie, and lesser spotted eagles, as well as mammals like lynx and European otters. Historic glassmaking traditions enrich local culture, with several small mountain towns and villages adjacent to the park preserving this heritage. Recreational opportunities attract nature lovers year-round: well-maintained footpaths and mountain bike trails provide ideal terrain for summer activities, while winter draws cross-country skiers to its snowy trails. Notable landmarks include the Wysoka Kopa peak with observation towers offering panoramic views, the Izera Dark Sky Park area promoting astronomy, and remnants of historical mountain huts and forestry infrastructure. The park’s blend of natural beauty, cultural history, and outdoor adventure makes it a compelling destination for visitors seeking tranquility and active exploration in a less tourist-crowded mountain setting.
